Misdiagnosis and dismissive responses

A mum expressed feeling dismissed and 'overprotective' after her toddler's concerning symptoms were attributed to his appearance rather than a serious medical condition. Danielle Love raised concerns about her son Myles, who became extremely tired, stopped eating, and appeared pale. Despite seeking medical help, his symptoms were initially dismissed as him being 'pale and ginger'.

From misdiagnosis to a life-threatening discovery

After multiple visits to the GP and being told Myles had a virus and constipation, Danielle persisted as his condition worsened. Eventually, Myles was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma, a type of cancer. It was only after a blood transfusion that doctors discovered a tumour in his abdomen, prompting urgent treatment.

Importance of advocacy and persistence

Although Myles is now in remission, Danielle believes his life was saved because she continued to push for answers despite feeling dismissed. She emphasizes the importance of trusting parental instincts and advocating for children's health, especially when faced with medical professionals who may not initially take concerns seriously.

Trust response and fundraising for future care

The North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust expressed regret over the Love family's experience and offered a meeting to address their concerns. A fundraiser has been set up to support the family with travel and accommodation costs for Myles' future treatment and care.
