Phobia or warning sign?

A former England footballer, Amy Carr, was told she had a phobia of arachnids after fainting at the sight of a spider in her room. However, her spider phobia turned out to be a symptom of a much more serious issue – a brain tumour.

Unexpected diagnosis

After collapsing in her bedroom and experiencing seizures, Amy underwent an MRI scan that revealed a golf-ball sized tumour on her brain, requiring immediate surgery. Despite the risks, she decided to proceed with the operation.

Road to recovery

Following surgery, Amy faced challenges such as temporary loss of speech and coordination, as well as undergoing rigorous radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Despite the difficulties, she has now transitioned to a career as a healthy lifestyle specialist and goalkeeping coach.

From the pitch to the marathon

Having earned caps for England u17 and u19s, Amy's journey led her to complete the Dublin Marathon, raising funds for Brain Tumour Research. Her experience has inspired her to support others facing similar challenges during their rehabilitation.
