Family of Brave 6-Year-Old Cancer Survivor Seeks Help for Treatment Funding

Background

The family of a six-year-old girl who bravely fought and beat cancer is now facing a challenging situation as the cancer has returned, and they need help to fund her treatment.

Amelia's Journey

Amelia Kolpa was diagnosed with rare neuroblastoma in the stomach at the age of two in 2020 after experiencing a fever. She underwent a rigorous two-year treatment regimen that included chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy. In 2022, she joyfully rang the end-of-treatment bell, marking a milestone in her battle against cancer.

Setback and Plea for Help

However, last month, Amelia woke up in pain, and it was discovered that the cancer had returned, this time in her leg. Her family is now seeking funding for a combination of chemotherapy and antibody treatment that is not available through the NHS. They are aiming to raise £340,000 for her treatment at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Plea from Amelia's Mother

Amelia's mother, Katarzyna Bartczak, expressed her desperation, saying, "I’m desperate to do anything to try and save my daughter’s life. This is our only chance to save her. She’s beaten the disease once, she just needs another chance."

Call for Support

An online fundraiser has already raised over £13,000, but the family is urging for more support to help Amelia in her fight against cancer.

About Neuroblastoma

Neuroblastoma is a rare type of childhood cancer that affects around 100 children in the UK each year, with most cases diagnosed before the age of five. The cancer typically originates in the abdomen and can spread to other areas of the body, causing symptoms like lumps, pain, numbness, weakness, and breathing difficulties.
