Unbearable Itch Leads to Cancer Diagnosis

A 15-year-old girl, Niamh Fisher, from Bonkle, Scotland, was diagnosed with cancer after experiencing an "unbearable itch" all over her body. Initially thought to be an allergic reaction or intolerance, the itch became so severe that she couldn't sleep and was clawing at her skin. A lump in her neck led to a rush to A&E and subsequent tests revealed Hodgkin lymphoma in August.

Family's Heartbreaking Journey

Niamh's legal guardians, Deborah and Brian, described her as a beauty enthusiast who loved fake tan, lashes, and makeup. The diagnosis has been particularly tough as Niamh is undergoing chemotherapy and experiencing changes in her appearance. The family has faced additional challenges, including the loss of Niamh's aunt to mental health struggles.

Raising Funds and Spreading Awareness

Inspired by the care at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Young Person’s Unit, Niamh's guardians set up a GoFundMe page to support Niamh's treatment and honor her late aunt. They shaved their heads in a fundraising effort and have been overwhelmed by the generosity of donors, raising over £5,600 for Teenage Cancer Trust.

Message of Hope and Resilience

Niamh's advice to others is to "trust your gut instinct" and seek medical help if something doesn't feel right. Despite the challenges, the family remains determined to support Niamh on her journey to recovery and live life to the fullest.
