Welsh officials are under fire after spending £4,000 on cheese

Last week Labour slammed the UK government for wasteful spending on Whitehall credit cards.

But it has emerged Welsh officials working for their government have done exactly the same.

And they have not released any details on spending for the past year.

The most recent documents, from 2020/21, show they spent £4,387.60 on gourmet cheese at an award-winning gift baskets and fine food website.

They also splashed out £800 on shopping channel QVC and £365 on Pembrokeshire Cruising.

Tory MP Dr James Davies said: “The full extent of the Welsh Labour government’s profligacy with government credit cards has been revealed.

“Spending thousands on gourmet cheese and posh hotels will have Welsh people cheesed off.”

The Welsh Government said yesterday: “Procurement cards are an efficient way of ordering and paying for small value goods and services, and reduce administration costs.”
