WEDDINGS will be able to take place across England from next Wednesday – but receptions will be banned in the top Tier 3.
Boris Johnson revealed the tough new beefed up Tier plan today in the House of Commons, which will come into place on Wednesday 2 December.
People could register their marriage but have no celebrations as part of the nationwide shut down.
It was confirmed today that wedding gatherings are able to return after the lockdown is lifted.
The rules will go back to how they were in October – with 15 guests allowed at weddings and civil partnership ceremonies.
Receptions will not be allowed in the top, most strict Tier 3 as part of the tougher rules.
Mr Johnson said today: “Collective worship, weddings and outdoor sports can resume, and shops, personal care, gyms and the wider leisure sector can reopen.”
Boris Johnson also announced today:
- The Tiers system will be significantly toughened up – with new rules for Tier 2 and 3 but NO Tier 4
- Households will be only able to meet up in Tier 3 in outdoor spaces like parks
- Pubs and restaurants in the top Tier will have to stay shut – but drive-thrus and deliveries can continue
- Tier 2 pub rules will be toughened, with only places serving food with drinks allowed
- Casinos, bowling alleys and cinemas in Tier 3 will have to stay shut
- Gyms and beauty salons can open across the nation – and all shops will open their doors again
- Brits will be able to go to see Boxing Day football matches in the lower tiers
- Elderly Brits will be able to come out of care homes to spend Christmas with the family if everyone tests negative–
- New parents with a kid under one will be allowed to form support bubbles
Many couples have been left heartbroken, unable to have their perfect wedding day because of on and off coronavirus rules.
And the threat of being plunged into Tier 3 and having their reception cancelled yet again may deter many from pushing ahead.
Mr Johnson said today the tougher tiers were necessary.
He told MPs: “We are going to go back instead to a regional tiered approach, applying the toughest measures where Covid is most prevalent.
“And while the previous local tiers did cut the R number, they were not quite enough to reduce it below 1.
“So the scientific advice I am afraid, is that as we come out is that our tiers need to be made tougher.”
The new rules mean people in Tier 2 still will not be allowed to mix with other households indoors and will need to order a “substantial meal” when having booze outside.
And in Tier 3 pubs and restaurants will be forced to close entirely, along with hotels and other accomodation.
