Cabinet Secretary Issues Strong Warning
Michelle Donelan, the UK Cabinet Secretary, has issued a major crackdown on what she calls "scientifically illiterate" boffins over their handling of sex and gender issues. She warns that the "guiding light" of science is under attack from what she calls the "slow creep of wokeism".
Review to Address Sex and Gender Questions
Donelan has announced that a review will take place into the use of sex and gender questions in scientific research and statistics. She argues that vital work in population studies, medicine, and sport is being affected by the current approach and took a swipe at Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer on the issue.
Gender and Sex Are Different, Says Donelan
In her address to delegates, Donelan asserted, "Any credible scientist will tell you that gender and sex are two different things... To suggest otherwise is not only scientifically illiterate, it actually damages scientific research and statistics in everything from population studies to medicine to sport. And unlike Comrade Keir, we will not sit idly by and watch an intolerant few stifle the light of science that leads us in the right direction."
Trans Women and Female-Only Hospital Wards
In related news, Health Secretary Steve Barclay has expressed concerns over trans women using female-only hospital wards and is considering changes to the NHS constitution. He wants to ensure that biologically female patients have the option of female-only wards, while also offering the same for male-only wards and trans men.
Push for Clarity and Common-Sense Approach
Barclay emphasized the need for a common-sense approach to sex and equality issues in the NHS. He announced proposals for clearer rights for patients, stating, "We need a common-sense approach to sex and equality issues in the NHS – that is why I am announcing proposals for clearer rights for patients."
