Touching moment: MP Craig Mackinlay receives standing ovation after battling sepsis

Bionic MP makes emotional return to Commons chamber

BIONIC MP Craig Mackinlay received a standing ovation as he walked into the Commons chamber for the first time in months yesterday. After contracting sepsis in September last year, the 57-year-old was rushed to hospital and put into a 16-day induced coma.

Five per cent chance of survival

His wife was told he only had a five per cent chance of survival. But Mr Mackinlay made a stunning recovery after having both his legs and arms amputated.

Gratitude to the Prime Minister

At PMQs, Mr. Mackinlay expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for his support during his recovery. He also called for more awareness of early sepsis signs.

PM's Response

In response, the Prime Minister acknowledged the importance of raising awareness about sepsis and assured that more would be done in this regard.
