The cringeworthy dance moves of political leaders, from the ‘Maybot’ to Jeremy Corbyn’s clapping fail

CHECK out these political movers and shakers who won’t win many votes for their rhythm.

Finnish PM Sanna Marin is in the news after footage of the 36-year-old dancing wildly at a party was leaked.

The leader was even forced to take a drugs test to prove she wasn’t under the influence of something illegal.

But perhaps the biggest shock is that this politician can really boogie.

Many politicians, from Theresa May to Donald Trump, have had a go to impress, but been comically poor.

Charlotte Owen judges some of the infamous displays and awards them each marks out of ten, in the style of Strictly Come Dancing.

THERESA MAY

Introducing the “Maybot”. The then PM showed off some seriously odd robotic “dance” moves on a trip to South Africa in 2018.

She then did her signature shuffle for the Tory party conference later that year.

MICHAEL GOVE

The Tory MP was dubbed Groovy Gove after popping up at a techno club in his hometown Aberdeen last summer.

Newly single, he flung his hands in the air like he just didn’t care.

DONALD TRUMP

POTUS out of our misery, please. The former US President gave campaign rallies a little extra oomph with YMCA fist pumps and head nods.

Well, he clearly thought it was a vote-winner.

It was Strictly awful to watch when this former Tory minister took part in the BBC dance show in 2010 – and her unfortunate pro partner Anton Du Beke had to drag her across the floor.

Former Labour leader didn’t so much dance at a Sunderland rally in 2016 as move his arms a bit in encouragement of others.

Jezza tried so hard to get the party started but definitely left before it ever did.

ED BALLS

Labour politician turned telly favourite strutted gamely to Psy’s Gangnam Style on Strictly Come Dancing in 2016, in a display later hailed as “the best worst dance”.

It’s a guilty pleasure we can never unsee.
