Refusal to listen to rioters
Sir Keir Starmer will refuse to listen to the yobs who rioted over immigration, Trending In The News on Sunday can reveal. The Prime Minister will blast the "mindless thugs" for wreaking havoc on Britain’s streets in his first major speech since taking office.
Condemnation of rioters' actions
He will say in Downing Street on Tuesday: "We’ve seen shocking scenes across the nation. A mindless minority of thugs who thought they could get away with causing chaos. Smashing up communities and terrifying minorities, vandalising and destroying people’s property. Even trying to set fire to a building with human beings inside. And as if that wasn’t despicable enough, people shouting racist slurs on our streets."
Stand against racism and violence
"Nazi salutes at the Cenotaph — the very place we honour those who gave their lives for this country. Desecrating their memory under the pretence — and it is a pretence — of ‘legitimate protest’. Now they’re learning crime has consequences. I will not tolerate a breakdown in law and order. And I will not listen to those who exploit grieving families."
Warning on underlying issues
But Shadow Home Secretary James Cleverly warned Sir Keir cannot ignore the underlying issues on immigration. Writing in today’s Sun on Sunday, the Tory leadership hopeful says: "Racist thugs are rightly being jailed, but we cannot tiptoe around underlying issues on immigration."
