Simon Weston Urges Sir Keir Starmer to Stand Firm on Falklands

FALKLANDS hero Simon Weston has called on Sir Keir Starmer to make it clear to Argentina that the Falkland Islands will not be surrendered. This comes after the Prime Minister refused to rule out handing over territories following the Chagos Islands deal.

Simon Weston's Plea

Ex-Welsh guardsman Simon Weston, who was severely injured during the 1982 war with Argentina, emphasized the importance of asserting British sovereignty over all territories. He urged for clarity and leadership, stating that it would bring peace of mind to the Falkland islanders.

Argentina's Response

Argentina has used the Chagos Islands deal as an opportunity to renew its claim to the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic. Simon Weston criticized the decision to hand over the Indian Ocean archipelago to Mauritius, calling it a "misstep."

Government's Position

While the PM did not guarantee that no other territories would be surrendered, a spokesperson clarified that the Chagos deal does not impact the UK's policy towards other overseas territories. The Foreign Office reaffirmed that British sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, and the Cyprus sovereign base areas is non-negotiable.
