The Chancellor’s Plan for Jobs got a major boost as apprenticeships on offers hit an all-time high yesterday with 18,950 vacancies available for the summer

Many bosses have taken advantage of the offer of £3,000 for every trainee they take on — unveiled in the Chancellor’s spring Budget.

Vacancies have rocketed ahead of the phasing out of the furlough scheme next month.

An extra 5,000 places have been made available in the past two months, figures show.

Treasury bosses believe the boom has been bolstered by an extra £126million in funding for traineeships aimed at helping the Covid-hit economy bounce back.

Providers say it shows more young people are choosing an apprenticeship over a costly three-year university place.

Multiverse founder Euan Blair — son of ex-PM Tony Blair — said: “Apprenticeships are growing in prestige.”

Multiverse is recruiting across the UK for Mercedes, Accenture, Dentsu and Octopus Energy.

A Treasury spokesman said: “It’s another sign our Plan for Jobs is working.”
