RISHI Sunak was last night under mounting pressure following the Sun’s explosive revelations that Suella Braverman leaked market sensitive immigration plans.
Labour has written to the PM demanding assurances the Home Secretary will not jeopardise Britain’s economic security.
Rishi Sunak is under growing pressure to sack Suella Braverman as Home Secretary
Suella Braverman leaked sensitive proposals for a ‘Growth Visa’ for migrants
Yesterday we revealed Ms Braverman leaked Liz Truss’ proposals for a “Growth Visa” to lure highly-skilled migrants to Britain in a £14billion boost.
She was promptly sacked by the former PM before being controversially reappointed by Mr Sunak just six days later.
As Westminster reeled from the Sun’s bombshell report, Pat McFadden, the Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, said it was “astonishing that the Home Secretary chose to share information about unannounced potential immigration policy decisions with those outside Government.”
He demanded Mr Sunak come clean about the extent of the information that leaked and a cast-iron promise Mr Braverman would not disclose more sensitive information.
Mr Sunak yesterday insisted he did not regret re-hiring her as Home Secretary – nicknamed Leaky Su – and that she had “acknowledged the mistake”.
He said: “As I said in Parliament earlier this week, she raised this topic with me when I discussed reappointing her as Home Secretary and I’m confident that she’s learned from her mistake.”
Last night the former head of the civil service said said Ms Braverman’s reappointment was a “potential bomb” waiting to go off.
Lord Bob Kerslake told Times Radio: “She seems to be a serial leaker from all we can establish.
“And so she has leaked once, there’s every chance she might do it again.
“And that will be bad news for Rishi Sunak.”
