Rishi Sunak champions press freedom

Rishi Sunak recently spoke out against the "chilling effect" of cancel culture, emphasizing the importance of being able to freely express opinions in a democratic society. In a speech in London at the Society of Editors 25th Anniversary Conference, the Prime Minister highlighted the significance of airing diverse views.

During his address, Sunak referenced individuals such as Evan Gershkovich, a Wall Street reporter currently detained in a Moscow prison, and Pouria Zeraati, an Iranian-British journalist who was attacked in London. He also praised the bravery of Alexei Navalny, who stood up for his beliefs despite facing threats on his life from the Russian government, and expressed solidarity with the people of Ukraine in their pursuit of shared values.
