President Zelensky praises Boris Johnson for Britain’s steadfast support of Ukraine as he joins first day of term

IT was back to class for ­President Volodymyr Zelensky yesterday as he hailed Boris Johnson as a “true friend” to Ukraine.

He joined children on the first day of term at a school in Irpin which was rebuilt after attacks from Russian troops.

While there he urged Britain’s next PM — expected to be Liz Truss — to preserve BoJo’s “legacy” and continue its steadfast support for Kyiv.

Trending In The News on Sunday understands Boris will make a final phone call to Mr Zelensky tomorrow afternoon as one of his final acts as PM.

BoJo is expected to stress he will “remain committed” to Ukraine and will continue to use his “megaphone” to speak up for the country.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Trending In The Newsday Times, Mr Zelensky has claimed Vladimir Putin is following in Adolf Hitler’s footsteps.

He said: “From Belarus, they are using the same routes and directions as Nazi Germany.”
