Pregnant Carrie Johnson champions gay rights in rare public appearance

PREGNANT Carrie Johnson last night championed gay rights in a rare public appearance at Tory conference.

Proud husband Boris took time from his hectic schedule to quietly slip in at the back of a packed room to watch his wife bang the drum for the LGBT community.

In her keynote address guest of honour Carrie said: “Whether you are LGBT+, or an ally like me, we are all committed to equality and acceptance for everyone – whoever you are and whomever you love.

“There are still those who will tell you that being LGBT+ and a Tory is incompatible.

“Well, looking around the room tonight, we can see that is blatantly untrue.”

Carrie, 33, told the LGBT Conservatives reception her husband was “completely committed” to their cause.

As she defended Boris’s record on the issue, someone believed to be the PM cheered from the back of the room, to which Carrie smiled: “I think he’s over there!”

Throwing an arm around worried LGBT people, she closed: “There will be some people here tonight who are out to their friends, but maybe not to their family.

“Or to their family, but not their work colleagues. “There might be some people here who are not out to anyone or questioning who they are.

“Wherever you are in your journey, I can assure you, you are among friends here.”

Sister-in-law Rachel Johnson and best pal Nimco Ali also watched Downing Street’s first lady bring the house down in Manchester.
