Yobs Beware: Police Crack Down on Off-Road Bike and E-Scooter Menace
Yobs wreaking havoc on off-road bikes and e-scooters will have their vehicles seized by cops without warning. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper's flagship Crime and Policing Bill is being introduced to Parliament today, aiming to crack down on anti-social behavior.
New Powers for Police to Combat Crime
The sweeping crime crackdown will also allow police to bust into the homes of suspected phone thieves without needing a warrant if the victim has tracked down their device. Ms. Cooper expects officers to follow up cases where stolen possessions have been pinpointed, introducing wide-ranging measures from curbs on protests to the use of lie detectors for potential sex offenders.
Immediate Seizure of Dangerous Off-Road Vehicles
A crackdown on anti-social behavior will give the police powers to confiscate dangerous off-road vehicles immediately without the need for a warning first. Ms. Cooper emphasized the need for swift action, stating, "It should be one strike and the bike is off the road."
New Laws to Combat Phone and Laptop Theft
New laws will also allow police to raid an address where a stolen phone or laptop is believed to be held, based on tracking information from apps like "find my phone" or air tags. This streamlined process aims to address the frustration of victims who can pinpoint the location of their stolen devices but face delays in recovery.

Additional Measures and Recruitment of Police Officers
Labour is moving forward with proposals to ban protesters from wearing face masks and using flares or fireworks at demonstrations. Special protection will be given to 25 war memorials to prevent climbing or vandalism. Ms. Cooper has pledged to recruit 13,000 extra police officers into neighborhood roles by the next election to enforce these changes, some of whom will be diverted from other areas of the force.
