Online porn causing rise in transgender identity among children, says Tory MP

MP claims "trans porn" is leading children into transgender identity and calls for new trans laws

A Tory MP has raised concerns that online pornography is inspiring children to identify as transgender. Miriam Cates, the MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge, made the comments at a Conservative Party conference fringe event on safeguarding. She claimed that many trans women have stated that exposure to trans pornography led them into the "trans arena." Cates also called for the Department for Education to make its upcoming guidance on trans issues legally binding.

Fears that new trans laws will be delayed to avoid party conflict

There are growing fears among MPs that Prime Minister Boris Johnson will delay any new legislation on transgender rights to avoid causing division within the Tory Party. The long-awaited guidance for teachers on how to support gender-variant children was supposed to be published in July but was withdrawn at the last minute. Draft guidance revealed by Trending In The News indicated that children would only be able to change their gender at school with parental permission and would be barred from participating in competitive sports.

MP calls for the statutory status of trans guidance in schools

Miriam Cates criticized the Department for Education for ignoring trans issues, claiming that they had "just closed their eyes." She argued that the new guidance should be legally binding and called for its publication, stating that even schools and activists who choose to ignore it would contribute to a wider public debate on transgender issues.
