Nigel Farage Threatens Private Prosecution Over Manchester Airport Incident

Nigel Farage Takes Legal Action

Nigel Farage has issued a threat to take the Manchester Airport suspects to court himself if prosecutors delay bringing charges in the case. The Reform party leader criticized what he called "two-tier policing" and accused the individuals involved of receiving "special, different treatment."

Incident Details

The incident, which occurred on July 23 at Manchester Airport, involved a confrontation captured in a viral video. The footage showed a police officer kicking Fahir Amaaz, 19, in the head while he and his brother Muhammad Amaad, 25, were being restrained. Subsequent footage showed the officers being overpowered, resulting in a female officer sustaining a broken nose before Mr. Amaaz was tasered.

Legal Action Threat

In a letter to Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, Nigel Farage and his Reform party colleagues expressed frustration over the lack of charges against the individuals involved in the incident. They criticized the delay in legal proceedings and stated their intention to pursue a private criminal prosecution if necessary, with a legal team on standby and a willingness to crowdfund the effort.

Response and Investigation

The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Major Incident Team has submitted a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in mid-August, awaiting a charging decision. While the Home Office and CPS have been approached for comment, it is unlikely that action will be taken on the letter from Farage and his colleagues, as the CPS operates independently.

The GMP spokesperson emphasized the importance of allowing the legal process to unfold without prejudice, stating their commitment to supporting the officers involved and ensuring justice is served.
