BRITAIN is set for a General Election next summer, the new Tory Chair let slip on day one of the job.

Greg Hands said the party has 18 months to turn things around, putting the country on course for an autumn 2024 poll.

The Tories are trailing Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour by 25 points in the polls.

But a hopeful Mr Hands insisted his party is “overall in good shape”.

He told Sky News: “We’re really looking forward to taking on

Sir Keir Starmer’s unreformed Labour Party and the other parties as well.

“I think the Conservative Party will have a really good story to tell at next year’s general election and we’re definitely looking forward to it.”

No10 yesterday denied an election is set in stone for 18 months.

A spokesperson said a date will be set out in the usual way.
