Families Can Benefit from Expanded Insulation Scheme
Starting today, families in the UK could save up to £400 a year on their energy bills with the launch of an expanded insulation scheme. This initiative aims to assist Brits living in council houses with poor energy ratings (D or below) by providing £1bn for roof, loft, or cavity wall insulation to prevent energy from escaping.
Gas Bills Remain High Despite Price Cap
Despite the recent energy price cap falling to approximately £1,900 per year for the average household, gas bills are still sky-high. This new insulation scheme aims to alleviate some of the financial burden faced by families.
The Great British Energy Insulation Scheme
The Great British Energy Insulation Scheme is set to replace the popular Green Homes Grants and will help an additional 300,000 homes over the next three years. This is on top of the 2.4 million households that have already received assistance through the Energy Company Obligation Scheme.
Support for Vulnerable Communities
Claire Coutinho, the Energy Security Secretary, stated that the Great British Insulation scheme would aid hundreds of thousands of people, including some of the most vulnerable in society. By keeping homes warm and reducing energy bills, this initiative aims to provide much-needed support. Families are encouraged to use the online checker tool, which launched today, to access this support.
More Needs to Be Done
Angela Terry, the founder of consumer website One Home, expressed her concerns that the current initiative is not enough. With eight million inadequate loft insulation homes in the UK, she believes that further measures are necessary. Terry emphasized that as energy costs remain high and are expected to stay that way in the future, reducing demand is crucial to addressing the cost of living and the climate crisis.
