The former Culture Secretary announced the move with “immediate effect” in a shock move amid speculation.
The Tories will now be defending a 24,000 majority in the mid-Bedfordshire seat saying it had been an “honour” to serve her constituents.
She revealed she had informed the Chief Whip of the decision saying it was now time for “someone younger to take the reins”.
Dorries had been a defender of Boris Johnson throughout his time in Number 10 and has been a staunch critic of the current Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
