Probe into Housing Secretary's financial interests

Michael Gove is currently under investigation by Parliament's sleaze watchdog regarding his register of financial interests. However, details of the probe will remain confidential until its conclusion.

Failure to register VIP hospitality

Last week, The Guardian reported that Mr Gove did not formally register VIP hospitality he received at a football match with Tory donor David Meller. Meller's company was previously recommended by Gove for a PPE contract during the pandemic.

Entertained at a football match

Mr Gove and Mr Meller attended a Queens Park Rangers match in 2021. Meller Designs was later granted six PPE contracts totaling £164m when Covid hit the UK.

No comment on investigation

A spokesperson for Mr Gove declined to comment on the standards watchdog investigation but acknowledged the oversight regarding the football hospitality. Mr Gove has since informed parliamentary authorities of the potential omission from his register of financial interests and apologized for the oversight.
