The Cabinet heavyweight said only Rishi had what it takes to deliver in the top job
The former levelling up chief – who formerly backed rising star, Kemi Badenoch – said Rishi would do what was best for the country, not his career.
And he admitted that his career in frontline politics with a string of top Cabinet jobs, was now over.
It comes despite several polls putting Foreign Secretary Ms Truss firmly in the lead to steal the Tory crown.
Mr Gove, who was axed by Boris Johnson earlier this summer, wrote in The Times that he thought Tory members would still swing in behind him.
He said: “I believe they will vote for Rishi as… only he can deliver what he has promised.”
Mr Gove lashed out at Ms Truss’ plans as not the “right priority” – saying it “can’t be right” to reject giving more hand outs during the cost of living crisis.
