Long-promised school rules for trans kids hit by 11th hour delay amid Cabinet row

LONG promised school rules for trans kids have been hit by an 11th hour delay amid a furious cabinet row.

Rishi Sunak had promised the new guidance would be out before kids break up at the end of term.

Gillian Keegan would only say the new rules would be coming in the ‘near term’

But last night No10 indicated the deadline could slip into the holiday as it was not yet done.

Education Secretary Gillian Keegan would only say yesterday it would be coming in the “near term”.

Ms Keegan and Business and equalities secretary, Kemi Badenoch, are at odds over how tough to be in the new guidance.

The pair are still “working through” the plans, No10 said last night, despite several drafts floating around Whitehall.

Ms Badenoch insisted last weekend that parents must be in the know about what is happening to their children at school.

Teachers are expected to be forced to tell parents if a child wants to change their gender at school.

And they will be told not to use new pronouns without the consent of the parents first.

Trans kids will be banned from playing competitive sport, according to a draft of the rules seen by Trending In The News last month.

But critics fear it will lead to trans children being outed by the teachers.

Downing Street said last night: “This is a sensitive area, it’s right to consider all sides and get the requisite expert experience.

“To draw up the guidance does take time, it’s not something you want to rush.”
