LIZ TRUSS last night charged into a fresh legal row with the EU over its “clear breach” of the Brexit deal.

The Foreign Secretary accused petty Brussels chiefs of blocking Britain from their science research schemes despite previously agreeing access.

After 18 months of delays she has now formally launched legal action to force the bloc to honour its promises.

Ms Truss blasted: “The EU is in clear breach of our agreement, repeatedly seeking to politicise vital scientific cooperation by refusing to finalise access to these important programmes.

“We cannot allow this to continue.

“That is why the UK has now launched formal consultations and will do everything necessary to protect the scientific community.”

After Brexit the UK negotiated access to Horizon Europe – the EU’s flagship science project – and the Copernicus Earth observation programme.

Britain has earmarked £15billion funding for Horizon alone, and is prepared to branch out with its own science programme if Brussels refuses to play ball.

Ms Truss’ intervention risks inflaming already fraught tensions with the EU following a series of dust-ups over the Brexit deal.

Brussels has already launched a legal challenge against the Foreign Secretary’s plans to tear up parts of the Northern Ireland Protocol.
