The Welfare Secretary backed Truss’s bid for Number 10 saying she had the electoral pull of Boris Johnson who won seats in the north and south.
Her comments come as four candidates have so far launched with the most high-profile so far from ex-Chancellor Rishi Sunak.
Truss will run on a ticket that will include reversing the national insurance hike and cut corporation tax.
Coffey said: “We need a leader who can unite the Red and Blue Wall, has a clear vision for the country and economy, and has the skills and experience to deliver it – which is why I think Liz Truss is the best person for the job.
“Having been a Cabinet Minister since 2014, Liz’s delivery record has been second to none and she is vastly experienced.
“She has helped lead the international response on Ukraine, and brokered dozens of post-Brexit trade deals that people thought would be impossible, and has experience helping manage the nation’s finances in the Treasury.
“Liz is our best hope for turning things around before the next election.”
Allies of Ms Truss says she has a clear vision for the economy based on true Conservative values to make the UK a freer-trading, lower tax and higher growth economy.
They also say she is the only candidate in the field who can keep the Red Wall and stop Tory voters shifting the the Lib Dems.
It comes after Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer left the door open to a pact with the Lib Dems after the next election.
An ally of Truss said: “Liz is our most likely election winner.
“She’s got the right mix of experience, toughness and a clear vision for the country based on lower taxes, free markets, a leaner state and protecting freedom of speech.”
Truss has also received the backing of several prominent Tories including Treasury Minister Simon Clarke.
