Amesbury claimed he "felt threatened" before the attack at 2.15 am on Saturday in his constituency of Runcorn and Helsby, Cheshire. The incident has led to his suspension as a member of the Labour Party, automatically suspending the Labour whip in the House of Commons.

Confirming his suspension, a Labour spokesperson mentioned that Amesbury has been assisting Cheshire Police with their inquiries following the incident. As the investigations are ongoing, his membership of the Labour Party has been administratively suspended pending further investigation.
New Footage Emerges
New footage obtained by the MailOnline shows the MP seemingly throwing the first punch during the incident in Frodsham. The video depicts an animated Amesbury unleashing a left hook to the man's head, with bystanders holding him back.
