Labour MP Mike Amesbury Suspended After Video Shows Him Punching Constituent

Shocking Incident Unfolds

MP Mike Amesbury has had the Labour whip suspended after a video appeared to show him sucker punching a constituent in the street. The 55-year-old politician was seen continuing to try to hit the man up to six times while he lay on the ground. Amesbury was also filmed having a row with a man as he lay on the street.

Reason Behind Suspension

Amesbury claimed he "felt threatened" before the attack at 2.15 am on Saturday in his constituency of Runcorn and Helsby, Cheshire. The incident has led to his suspension as a member of the Labour Party, automatically suspending the Labour whip in the House of Commons.

Further Investigations Underway

Confirming his suspension, a Labour spokesperson mentioned that Amesbury has been assisting Cheshire Police with their inquiries following the incident. As the investigations are ongoing, his membership of the Labour Party has been administratively suspended pending further investigation.

New Footage Emerges

New footage obtained by the MailOnline shows the MP seemingly throwing the first punch during the incident in Frodsham. The video depicts an animated Amesbury unleashing a left hook to the man's head, with bystanders holding him back.
