Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer assures plan to strengthen ties with EU will not reverse Brexit

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has clarified that his plan to strengthen the UK's relationship with the European Union (EU) will not overturn Brexit. In a recent meeting with leftwing bosses, he stated that Labour would "not diverge" from the bloc's rules, sparking concerns among Conservative MPs that he was trying to backtrack on Brexit. However, Starmer has denied these claims, emphasizing that a Labour government would not compromise on food standards or workers' rights.

Tory MPs accuse Starmer of flip-flopping on Brexit

Several Conservative MPs have accused Sir Keir Starmer of constantly changing his stance on Brexit. Minister Mark Spencer criticized the Labour Party for obsessing over Brexit and advocated for moving forward rather than looking back at the past. Chancellor Jeremy Hunt expressed concern that aligning UK laws and regulations with the EU would go against the wishes of Brexit supporters. He argued that Britain should instead focus on building strong relationships with neighboring countries across the Channel.

Starmer defends plan to sign up to EU migrant returns deal

Sir Keir Starmer has also faced criticism for his plan to sign up to any future EU migrant returns deal. Suella Braverman warned that this could turn Britain into the continent's "dumping ground" for asylum seekers. However, Starmer clarified that this would not involve the UK accepting a quota of the bloc's asylum seekers, seeking to allay concerns surrounding the issue.
