Labour insiders are reportedly eyeing Dragons Den star Deborah Meaden as a potential candidate for the next London Mayor, as current Mayor Sadiq Khan is expected to step down at the end of his term.

Unofficial race to succeed Sadiq Khan

The unofficial race to succeed Sadiq Khan as London Mayor is already underway, with Labour MPs Dawn Butler and Dr. Rosena Allin Khan also expressing interest in the position previously held by Boris Johnson before becoming Prime Minister.

Why Meaden?

Some within the Labour Party are looking for a candidate with star power and business acumen outside of Westminster, and see Meaden, known for her role on Dragons Den and her successful business background, as a potential fit for the role.

Support for Labour

Meaden has shown support for the Labour Party on social media, particularly in relation to Chancellor Rachel Reeves, with whom she has a close relationship. She has defended Reeves against criticism and praised her actions in response to Covid corruption allegations.
