Kamala Harris stays silent on presidential bid
Kamala Harris broke her silence and addressed the public for the first time since Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed her. The Vice President remained mum on her own presidential ambitions during the event.
Endorsement from Joe Biden
Hours after Joe Biden announced the end of his reelection campaign and threw his support behind Kamala Harris, she accepted his endorsement. This move came after mounting pressure from Democrats and donors calling for Biden to step down.
Republican criticism
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump criticized Harris, calling her 'incompetent' during a pre-taped interview with Fox News. Trump also claimed that Harris was campaigning for Biden to step down to pave the way for her own presidential run.
Backing from fellow Democrats
Following Biden's withdrawal, several prominent Democrats who were speculated to challenge Harris for the nomination have now endorsed her presidential bid. Governors Gavin Newsom and Gretchen Whitmer, along with Senator Joe Manchin, have thrown their support behind Harris.
Speech at the White House
Harris addressed the NCAA championship teams from the 2023-24 season at the White House, starting her speech by praising Joe Biden's accomplishments as president. She then shifted the focus back to the athletes in attendance.
