Jeremy Corbyn sports painful black eye and swollen lip after tripping over tree root while on a run

JEREMY Corbyn was spotted battered and bruised in the face this morning as it emerged he tripped over a tree root while out running.

The former Labour leader was at London’s Euston station on a picket line, showing his support for striking rail workers.

Purple bruising covering Mr Corbyn’s left eye and a swollen lip caught the attention of passers-by.

But the Islington North MP confirmed his grim injury wasn’t the because of an attack or malicious behaviour.

He explained: “I was out running in Finsbury Park and unfortunately a tree root had protruded over the path.

“Me and the tree root collided and I collided with the ground afterwards.

“There was nobody else involved – totally me on my own – but I love running anyway.”

Mr Corbyn is sitting as independent MP after he had the Labour whip removed by Sir Keir Starmer in 2020.

The former leader recently sparked outrage after claiming Britain should not send weapons to heroic Ukraine.

As civilians in the country were mercilessly slaughtered by Russian troops, Mr Corbyn complained about world leaders focussing too much on weapons.

He told the Al Mayadeen TV station: “Pouring arms in isn’t going to bring about a solution, it’s only going to prolong and exaggerate this war.

“Hardly any of the world’s leaders use the word peace. They always use the language of more war and more bellicose war.”
