Hugely-popular MP tipped to follow in Matt Hancock’s footsteps on I’m a Celeb

FIREBRAND Nats MP Mhairi Black could be heading for the jungle, bookies claim.

The 28-year-old announced last week that she would not stand for re-election branding the House of Commons ‘toxic’.

And despite having around 18 months before her parliamentary career comes to an end Coral experts claim she could be jetting off to the jungle to appear in the next series of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.

Bookies have offered odds on the Paisley and Renfrewshire South representative, who won her seat aged 20, as 6/4 to appear in this year’s show, and at 16/1 to emerge as winner.

Coral’s betting specialist John Hill said: “We’ve seen many politicians swap the House of Commons for the I’m A Celeb jungle in recent years and our odds suggest Mhairi Black may be the latest to do so.

“All bets are off when it comes to who may do the most Bushtucker Trials this year as the SNP politician may have to do more than her fair share of challenges.”

Last year shamed former Health Secretary Matt Hancock appeared in the jungle and told campmates he was looking “for forgiveness” over his lockdown rule breaking.

But the move saw him facing the bushtucker challenge a record breaking number of times as viewers at home let rip but his strong stomach saw him finish third.

Despite Hancock’s appearance Andy Barr founder of 10 Yetis PR and an industry expert, claims appearing in the jungle could help open doors for the soon-to-be ex MP.

He said: “Mhairi Black’s appearance on I’m a Celeb could not come at a better time for her and her future career aspirations.

“Let’s be honest, she is never going to be as hated as Hancock so the chances of her having to eat fish testicles and kangaroo poo are much more reduced than he faced.

“Black also has a history of anti-Westminster rhetoric and this should resonate well with the rest of the UK given how out of favour Westminster is right now with the masses.

“Whilst Hancock went in with clear aspirations to build a media career out of his appearance, you can’t help but feel that Mhairi Black is going in with a far more grounded, realistic and sensible approach and this is what viewers want to see.

“ Her natural edge should also make for addictive viewing and I expect her to give the celeb diva’s in the camp short shrift.

“I imagine she has been able to hold out for a competitive deal with a talent agency because the media industry will be watching on and listening to the speculation that she has a glittering career ahead of her.”
