Early Morning Swim

Home Secretary James Cleverly and fellow Tory MP Johnny Mercer sought to connect with floating voters in a unique way by taking an early morning swim in the sea at Plymouth Hoe. The pair braved the chilly waters in their Parliamentary briefs, with Mercer, the local MP, and Cleverly, on a constituency visit, diving in together.

Johnny Mercer shared a picture of their refreshing swim on social media, stating, "Fantastic to have @JamesCleverly in Plymouth and start the day in the traditional way with a swim and a proper coffee. Top guy."

Political Reshuffle

James Cleverly was appointed Home Secretary on November 13, 2023, following the dismissal of his predecessor Suella Braverman. Braverman was removed from her position after making controversial remarks about police favoritism in an opinion piece for The Times. Cleverly was seen entering No. 10 Downing Street after Braverman's dismissal, alongside the new Foreign Secretary David Cameron.

Political Journey

Prior to his role as Home Secretary, Cleverly served as the Foreign Secretary from September 6, 2022, under then-PM Liz Truss. He continued in this position under Rishi Sunak until Lord Cameron took over as Foreign Secretary in a Cabinet reshuffle the previous November.
