Explosive Texts Reveal Civil Servant's Scathing Assessment of Boris Johnson's Covid Response

Top Mandarins Unleash Criticism

Explosive texts have been revealed, showing that Britain's top mandarin, Simon Case, was privately scathing of Boris Johnson's handling of the Covid crisis. In a series of WhatsApp messages, Case expressed his frustration, stating that "Government isn't actually that hard, but this guy is really making it impossible." The messages were shown during the Covid inquiry grilling of former No10 aide Martin Reynolds, who organized the controversial "bring your own booze" party.

"Deeply Sorry" for Lockdown-Busting Gathering

During his testimony, Reynolds, also known as "Party Marty," expressed his remorse for the lockdown-breaking event and the distress it caused grieving families. He admitted that pre-pandemic planning was "grossly deficient" and revealed the chaos that existed within Downing Street. Reynolds stated, "The machine was not properly prepared for the scale of the crisis we were about to face."

Mandarin's Despair at Johnson's Approach

The WhatsApp messages presented at the inquiry showed Simon Case and Martin Reynolds in despair at Boris Johnson's handling of the early stages of the coronavirus. Case, who is still in his position as Cabinet Secretary, expressed being "at the end of his tether" and suggested that the then Prime Minister had a "let it rip" strategy to deal with the disease, stating that the UK "needs a cold shower." He strongly criticized Johnson's leadership, stating, "He cannot lead, and we cannot support him in leading with this approach. The team captain cannot change the call on the big plans every day... IT HAS TO STOP!"

Dysfunctional Relationship between Johnson and Cummings

During his testimony, Reynolds also shed light on the dysfunctional relationship between Boris Johnson and his former chief adviser, Dominic Cummings. He revealed that after the 2019 general election, it became clear that their agendas were not overlapping.
