The advice was issued by the NHS, the Department for Health and the UK Health Security Agency before the heatwave.

The taxpayer-funded document titled Beat the Heat: Keep Cool at Home was released in May.

It suggests keeping safe at home by “moving to a cooler part of the house”.

Households are also told to open windows at night when the air is cooler.

Meanwhile, union leaders say bin collectors must be issued with brollies.

The TUC says outside tasks should be abandoned between 11am and 3pm when UV levels are highest.
