Conservative sources think the party will get “slapped” in both red wall Wakefield and rural Tiverton – as Downing Street prepares for Sue Gray’s brutal Partygate report to be published next week.

The Whitehall sleazebuster has given more than a dozen senior No10 figures – including the PM – until Sunday evening to respond to being named and shamed in her long awaited report.

As many as 15 senior No10 and Cabinet Office officials, plus the PM himself, are expected to be named.

But sources say it is unlikely her final document will include embarrassing pictures of the PM partying during lockdown.

PM MISSES PENALTY

One MP who wants a new PM told Trending In The News a double blow in the two by-elections would lead to some “major bloodletting.”

Tory MPs have been ordered to campaign in both seats – with aides saying Wakefield was looking more positive than Tiverton – where the Lib Dems are putting down an heavy challenge.

But Senior Tories believe the clamour for Mr Johnson to face a vote of confidence in his leadership had fizzled out after Sir Keir Starmer was dragged into the Partygate row with his own police investigation.

Yesterday the PM claimed he was “very grateful” for the Metropolitan Police’s investigation, which concluded with 126 fines for lockdown breaches in Downing Street and Whitehall.

But there were demands for answers over how Mr Johnson escaped with just one fixed-penalty notice despite being accused of being present at multiple rule-breaking events.

Mr Johnson declined to apologise again for the rule-breaking in No 10 during a visit to Hilltop Honey’s factory in Newtown in Powys, Wales, on Friday.
