Boris Johnson will stand to be an MP again as local Tories back him in Uxbridge

BORIS Johnson has been backed by local Tories to stand again as an MP in West London.

The ex-PM was reselected last night as the Conservative candidate for his seat of Uxbridge and South Ruislip.

It puts rumours to bed that he could move to a safer seat if the Tories don’t do well at the next election.

He currently has a 7,000-vote majority, but Labour are keen to target it whenever the next vote comes.

The ex-PM has raked in more than £1million since leaving office in September, mostly in after-dinner speeches.

In a statement on Thursday, the Uxbridge and South Ruislip Conservative Association said: “Tonight the Uxbridge and South Ruislip selection committee adopted Boris Johnson as our parliamentary candidate.

“We look forward to continuing to work alongside him to deliver for the residents and communities within the constituency, where he has strong connections and involvement.

“His commitment to deliver a new Hillingdon Hospital for Uxbridge and South Ruislip residents remains at the forefront of his work as our local MP.”

Earlier this month he weighed into the Brexit debate about Northern Ireland – ripping apart Rishi Sunak’s deal.

But despite saying he was unlikely to vote for it, he said he would not stand in the way of the agreement and admitted people wanted to move on.

In a major speech at the Global Soft Power Summit in Westminster, Boris slammed the Windsor Framework as “a drag anchor on divergence, which is the point of Brexit”.

Pouring cold water over Mr Sunak’s deal, BoJo said: “There’s no point in Brexit unless you do things differently.

“I am going to find it very difficult to vote for something like this myself as I believe we should have done something different.”

A vote on the Stormont Break – giving Northern Ireland a say on new laws – is due in the Commons next week.
