Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine a year ago today

A year ago today the Kremlin crackpot went on TV declaring the start of his “special military operation” that in reality was a full-frontal assault on Ukraine.

Mr Johnson told the Washington Post: “I was disgusted by Putin. I was disgusted by what he was doing.

“I was nauseated by his language, by his lies, by his aggression, by his condescension toward Ukraine. I thought the whole thing was repellent, arrogant, chauvinistic, wrong.”

Speaking on the invasion’s anniversary the ex-PM also disclosed he dropped the c-bomb when he was called with the news by one of his aides.

Mr Johnson struck up a relationship with President Volodymyr Zelensky in the early days of the war after rallying the West to stand up to Putin.

He has since banged the drum for allies to send more weapons to Ukraine including urging successor Rishi Sunak to supply fighter jets.

Last month he said the Moscow madman threatened to kill him with a missile strike, saying “it would only take a minute”.

Today Mr Johnson attended a Ukrainian church service to mark the anniversary of the invasion.

He said: “A year ago today, we woke up to the heartbreaking news of Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.

“The suffering and loss of life caused by Putin’s war must be remembered forever, as should the bravery of the Ukrainian people. We stand with them today and always.”
