LEGAL advice from top lawyers today could blow apart the Boris Johnson Partygate probe.

One of Britain’s most senior QCs, Lord Pannick, will warn Labour’s Harriet Harman that her investigation into the PM risks “paralysing democracy”, insiders say.

Her probe into whether BoJo lied to Parliament about what he knew about lockdown parties is due to start within weeks.

He could be suspended from the Commons or even lose his seat if found guilty.

It was previously assumed the committee would have to prove he had deliberately lied or “knowingly” misled the Commons.

But the committee has ruled his intentions are not relevant, leading critics to brand it a “witch hunt”.

One senior Government source said: “Ministers will never be able to say anything if they think they can be found in contempt by accidentally giving the wrong answer.”

Insiders believe the advice from Lord Pannick could be “absolutely devastating” to the inquiry.

It was commissioned by the Cabinet Office.
