Big weddings back on by summer! Boris says plan for normal nuptials by mid-2021

BORIS Johnson vowed last night that by next summer weddings will be back on as Britain fight back coronavirus.

The PM insisted that it’s his “strong hope and belief” that by next summer a combination of the vaccine and mass testing means the country will be returning to their lives and people will be “getting hitched as normal”.

He was grilled by wedding organiser Lara – who is also meant to be getting married

He was grilled last night during his People’s PMQs session by wedding planner Lara – but he swerved questions on his own engagement to girlfriend, Carrie Symonds.

He said: “If you’re thinking about the summer, I think you’ll be alright.

“By summer, one way or another, we’ll be in a different world.

“Plan for a much more active summer and lots of happy nuptial events all over the UK”.

And he added: “The New year brings with it new hope. We have to stick at it.”

At the moment people can only get married with up to 15 people in attendance at their ceremony in Tier 2 or 3 – which has decimated the wedding industry and forced thousands of people to scrap their big days.

In Tier 2 people can hold a small wedding reception, but in Tier 3 they are cancelled altogether.

The PM also hinted at tax cuts and dashing red tape to get Britain booming again once the country is over the worst of the coronavirus.

Boris said that businesses was “the motor that is going to enable us to pay for all the things we need in the future” and pay back the nation’s mounting Covid debt.

He stressed that taxes were one thing he was looking at to try and support businesses up and down the nation who have struggled to stay afloat over the Covid pandemic.

He added: “‘We’ll be looking at the tax environment and the regulatory environment and everything we can do to encourage and support business in this country.

“The single best thing you can do for business is to get the disease right under control.

“An ounce of confidence is worth a tonne of Rishi’s money.”

And as pubs remain shut over huge swathes of the country, he said he “deeply regrets what we have had to do”.

The PM said with a sombre tone: “It is awful to think of these sacrifices businesses shave had to make.

“But I am absolutely sure that next year we are going to bounce back collectively very strongly, and businesses are going to bounce back strongly.”
