Third-party hit Baldur’s Gate 3 was crowned the best game of 2023, but Xbox players were left out in the cold as it was initially only available on PC and PS5 platforms.
Save data issues have left Xbox gamers worried about missing out on the action.
Delay finally over
After winning multiple awards, including Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2023, it was announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 would finally make its way to Xbox consoles.
The delay was due to the game's popular multiplayer feature, which Larian Studios struggled to get working on the Xbox Series S.
Xbox insists on equal treatment for both the powerful Xbox Series X and the budget Series S, so games cannot be released on one console without the other.
This requirement caused delays as the studio grappled with finding a solution for multiplayer functionality.
Game still plagued by issues
Since December 6, Xbox players have been able to purchase and play Baldur’s Gate 3, but the delay hasn't resolved all the problems.
Many players have reported that the game frequently fails to save properly, resulting in lost progress.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the most popular and longest games released last year, with playthroughs lasting hundreds of hours.
Given the game's length, completing it without saving is impossible.
Larian Studios is aware of the issue and is currently working on solutions to fix the problem.
One suggestion is to enable cross-save, which would allow players to upload their save data to the cloud for an extra backup.
However, it may take some time for a full fix as the studio has fewer staff available during the holiday season.
Hold off for now
It is recommended that Xbox players hold off on purchasing Baldur’s Gate 3 until the save data issue is resolved.
