Xbox has recently announced that a beloved feature will be discontinued starting January 2024. This news affects both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S owners, so it's crucial for players to prepare in advance.
What's Changing?
The upcoming change also impacts Xbox One owners. Currently, gamers can easily download any screenshots or clips taken using their Xbox console from the Xbox Network. However, starting next year, there will be a limited time frame during which these captures will be stored before they are permanently deleted.
Xbox will provide players with a 90-day window to back up, download, or save their footage before it is removed. This includes any screenshots and captures taken prior to January.
How to Protect Your Xbox Captures
To prevent the loss of your valuable screenshots and footage, there are a few steps you can take to keep them safe:
Save Xbox Captures on a Hard Drive or OneDrive
If you don't have a physical hard drive available to store your footage, you can easily transfer your Xbox captures to OneDrive. Follow these steps:
- Open My Games & Apps in the Xbox menu.
- Select Apps and choose Captures.
- Select the files you want to keep and use the corresponding function to back them up to OneDrive or an external drive connected to your Xbox.
In the future, you can directly save your captures to OneDrive or external storage by navigating to Settings > Storage Devices and changing your capture location.
Keep in mind that the free version of OneDrive has storage limitations, so it may only accommodate a limited number of clips. However, there should be enough space for all of your screenshots.
