FANS have noticed that promotional material for the upcoming Legend of Zelda reveals that the game includes online features.
Tears of the Kingdom is the highly anticipated sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
The box which one fan found.
We have known it has been in development for a while, and is scheduled to be released on May 12, 2023.
However, online functionality was not previously officially announced, and is unusual for Zelda games.
A photo of some promotional material for the game posted online to Reddit showed the symbol for Nintendo Switch Online.
This reveals that there will be added functionality for those who are subscribed to the online service.
However, it does not explain what the online functionality for the game will be.
The most likely functionality is cloud saving, where players can upload their save data to the cloud.
This is common in most Nintendo games, and it is highly likely to be available for Tears of the Kingdom.
The other function could be DLC released after May of next year.
There were two DLC packs created for Breath of the Wild that were released a few months after the original game.
These were available to purchase separately. However, since then, Nintendo has been offering members of their more expensive online pass, Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass, DLC as part of the subscription.
This began with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s DLC that doubles the number of tracks available in the game.
Players can still purchase this DLC separately, or can play it for free if they are a subscriber.
It seems unlikely that the online functionality will include a multiplayer mode, as the promotional material states that the game is single-player.
If there was multiplayer functionality, this would likely be shown, or announced prior to the game’s release.
