The British Army's Attempt to Recruit Fortnite Players Backfires

Fortnite: A Non-Violent Video Game

Contrary to the misconception that violent video games lead to real-world violence, studies have actually shown that they can decrease real-world aggression. Fortnite, with its cartoony-style and animated art, falls into this category. In the game, players take on the role of colorful characters battling it out to be the last one standing. While weapons are available, the game's unrealistic nature sets it apart from other violent video games.

Surprising Recruitment Strategy

Despite this understanding, The British Army recently attempted to recruit Fortnite players. This move left many people shocked, considering that Fortnite is immensely popular among children and young people, with over 60% of its player base being 24 and under.

A Livestream Gone Wrong

The Army Jobs Twitter account announced a livestream featuring two popular streamers, Yung Filly and Elz The Witch, who were set to play a match on an army-style island designed to attract young players. However, the custom map created for the livestream violated Fortnite's guidelines, which state that commercial content must not promote military enrollment.

Backtracking and Silence

After the violation was brought to light, the Army removed all posts related to the island and the livestream. Both streamers also removed their posts, and it remains unclear whether the livestream will proceed as planned.
