The best Dragon-type Pokémon ranked worst to best

EVER since generation one Dragon-type has been one of the strongest yet most elusive kinds of Pokémon.

Since then dragons have been designed to come in all shapes and sizes, in ways that make you second guess if they are even a dragon at all.

The best Dragon-type Pokémon ranked worst to best
Drampa will burn your house down.

Take a look at our list of the top 10 Dragon-type Pokémon. See which ones you agree with, and which ones surprise you.

10. Duraludon

Have you ever looked up at a skyscraper and gone ‘Ah yes, the city trainer’s Dragon-type’?

If not then you have probably never locked eyes with Duraludon.

Tall, sleek, and steely, with a Gigantamax that is literally a skyscraper with clouds around the top, Duraludon pushes the meaning of dragon to its limit.

9. Drampa

Drampa may look a bit dopey, but you don’t want to get on the wrong side of it.

Once someone has hurt Drampa or its friends it will not stop until it has sought its revenge.

The Pokédex entry reads “If a child it has made friends with is bullied, Drampa will find the bully’s house and burn it to the ground.”

Drampa really didn’t need to go that hard, so best to stay on its good side.

8. Appletun

Appletun is one of the slowest Pokémon around and as such should never see the light of battle.

However, it is also a little tortoise looking Dragon that has been baked into a pie and is therefore flawless.

It also evolves from Applin, an apple with leaves for eyes. If you are still not convinced you clearly don’t have any taste.

7. Latios / Latias

Pokémon Emerald’s battle tower is one of the greatest challenges that Pokémon has ever thrown at its players; and Latios and Latias are its King and Queen.

As roaming Pokémon they are not easy to trap, but once you have them they will prove invaluable in these tough battles.

Psychic and Dragon is one of the best type matchups in Pokémon, letting nothing get in their way.

6. Altaria

Altaria’s big, fluffy cloud bird form is already adorable, but Game Freak really turned up the charm by creating Mega-Altaria.

The clouds of Altaria’s Mega form are so big they threaten to swallow its bird body whole, leaving only a cotton candied belch.

The ability Pixilate also makes all Normal moves do almost twice their normal damage. Strong and sweet.

5. Kingdra

Kingdra is so often overlooked when it comes to Dragon-types, but it is also one of this type’s most reliable fighters.

The only new Dragon-type introduced in the second generation, Kingdra was around when Dragon-types were still difficult to catch and find.

Yet anyone who faced Johto’s final gym leader Clair, will know what kind of punch this seahorse can pack.

4. Mega-Ampharos

We all loved our long-necked sheep friend ever since we saw Jasmine’s Amphy up in Olivine lighthouse.

Unfortunately, its stats were a little underwhelming and it couldn’t always find a spot on our teams.

Then generation six came along and served us Fabio inspired Mega-Ampharos. With 165 Special Attack it found a way back into our hearts.

3. Rayquaza

At some point Game Freak decided that one of its strongest ever legendary Pokémon wasn’t strong enough, and they made Mega-Rayquaza with its 780 base stat total.

Rayquaza can melt anything that dares get in its way and is only scared of Ice-type moves.

If it didn’t seem cool enough, at the end of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, you hop on an obedient Mega-Ray and ride his head directly through an asteroid.

2. Dragapult

Dragapult looks amazing. It has one of the most interesting typings in Pokémon, and the stats to take down everything in battle.

But what makes Dragapult so special is its signature move, Dragon Darts.

Filling its head cannons with baby Dreepy, it shoots two of its children directly at you. It better watch out if Drampa’s around.

1. Alolan Exeggcutor

Ever since Alolan Exeggcutor was first announced its gigantic coconut head crept its way into our heart and remained.

It backed up our instant love for our stretch-necked friend by having beefy Attack stats and enough Defensive moves to be unstoppable in battles.

Alolan Exeggcutor may not be very good at sneaking around Rocket Underground, but it’s goofy smile will always cheer us up.
