MARVEL’S Spider-Man 2 is expected to be released later this year, but a new announcement has disappointed fans.
The original game was one of the best exclusive releases for PS4, and PlayStation fans have been excited for the sequel.
Venom is one of the antagonists in the upcoming game.
Marvel’s Spider-Man was originally released in 2018, with a remastered version coming to PS5 in 2020.
This was the same year that Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales was released simultaneously on both PlayStation consoles.
Both games have since been released on PC, but as PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan explained, first-party PS games will remain exclusives until two to three years after launch.
A comment from one of the voice actors in the upcoming game led players to be excited for a much asked-for feature.
In a Q&A session with Miles Morales’ voice actor Nadji Jeter fans thought the actor let slip about an unannounced feature.
When asked if Spider-Man 2 would have cooperative gameplay, Jeter responded positively.
The upcoming game will feature both Miles Morales and Peter Parker in the role of Spider-Man, which led many to believe they would be able to play with a friend.
Jeter’s response made fans excited for two-player gameplay, but it appears this won’t be in the game.
Following the session, a fan reached out to developer Insomniac on Twitter asking explicitly whether the game was single-player or co-op.
However, Insomniac denied any multiplayer content writing: “Nope! It is an epic single-player adventure!”
Jeter’s comments could have been referring to how the two characters interact in the game, suggesting attacks or actions that require both characters.
Of course, a multiplayer component was never promised by Insomniac, but fans were still excited to play Spider-Man with a friend.
A number of games, such as Diablo 4, have put an emphasis on couch co-op gameplay, and players are trending to more social gaming.
It seems that the upcoming game will follow the path laid out in the first two games in the series and remain single-player.
