Resident Evil video game could be worth hundreds

Iconic PlayStation horror game ‘now worth up to £695’ if you have it with the box – but even the disc could fetch £360

Gamers might want to dig through their collection as a popular title could be worth hundreds. It's part of the Resident Evil series of video games which have been a must for horror fans since 1996. One owner recently sold theirs on eBay for £469.79.

Resident Evil is one of the highest-grossing horror franchises of all time. The first game was released in 1996, published by Capcom for PlayStation. A sequel, Resident Evil 2, was launched in 1998.

Special Collector's Edition for PS4 now rare and valuable

Set two months after events in the first Resident Evil game, you play rookie cop Leon S. Kennedy and student Claire Redfield as they attempt to escape zombie-filled Raccoon City. If you managed to buy the special Collector's Edition for PS4 at the time you might be interested to know it's now quite rare – and therefore valuable.

According to PriceCharting.com, the bundle is worth £695 if it's still sealed. And you could get more if it's professionally graded. The site estimates owners could fetch about £764 for these copies. If it's unsealed but you have the complete-in-box set then you could make £535 on a sale. Even if you only have the disc after all these years there's a decent value. The loose price could net around £360.

Remember, these figures are just estimates based on previous sales. So if you do decide to sell your copy, you might end up earning more or less than these prices. "We update our prices daily from sources across the internet so you can be sure the data is accurate and timely," PriceCharting says.

Looking at some previous sales on eBay, a listing for Resident Evil 2 Remake Collector's Edition European Edition Ultra Rare Sealed went for £469.79 in November 2023. A remake of Resident Evil 2 was released in 2019.
