The Incident
During a top 8 match at the Pokémon World Championship, US player Ian Robb made a hand gesture after his victory that the Pokémon Company deemed obscene. This led to a match loss and his elimination from the tournament.
Prizes and Consequences
The winner of the Masters category stands to win $50k, with cash prizes for the top 32 players. Robb, who finished in the top 8, missed out on a higher prize due to the ruling but expressed support for the eventual champion, Fernando Cifuentes.
A Sporting Response
Despite the setback, Robb took to Twitter to congratulate Cifuentes on his victory, showing sportsmanship and respect for his competitor.
