Pokémon introduces the first Shiny Legendary, but catching it won't be easy

Shiny Meloetta makes its debut

The Pokémon Company has unveiled an exciting update for Scarlet and Violet players - the opportunity to obtain a Shiny Meloetta for the very first time. This marks a significant milestone for Pokémon enthusiasts.

A challenging catch

While many legendary Pokémon are typically 'shiny-locked,' preventing them from being caught legitimately in-game, Shiny Meloetta breaks this trend. However, don't expect it to be a walk in the park to capture this elusive creature.

Steps to catch Shiny Meloetta

To add Shiny Meloetta to your collection, you'll need to own Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, along with The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC. Additionally, downloading Pokémon Home on both your Nintendo Switch and smartphone is essential.

A Pokémon Home subscription isn't mandatory, but it can streamline the process. Players must catch every Pokémon across all three Pokédexes, including version exclusives like the Paradox Pokémon and limited editions such as Gouging Fire and Raging Bolt.

Transferring at least one of every Pokémon from the Scarlet and Violet Dex to Pokémon Home is crucial. This step can be expedited with a subscription but is possible without one. Remember, all Pokémon must be caught in Scarlet and Violet to claim your Shiny Meloetta.

Claiming your prize

Once all Scarlet and Violet Pokémon are registered in Pokémon Home, head to the smartphone app logged into the same account as your Nintendo Switch. From there, you can retrieve your Shiny Meloetta via Mystery Gifts within the app.

While the process may seem daunting, this is the only way to secure a Shiny Meloetta. Pokémon enthusiasts should keep an eye out for similar opportunities for other complete Pokédexes in the future.
